I read an article/blog post (somewhere on the internetz, who knows now) about how fulfilling and rewarding it is to have chickens. And now I've been dreaming about it. Initially I thought it would be a great idea because Scott and I eat anywhere from 2-5 eggs a day (and that's just breakfast!). Seriously, we buy that 3 dozen pack at the grocery store and go through it in a week. I know that it would be better for us to get the organic/free range eggs too, but we don't because of budget reasons.
Unfortunately, our landlord won't allow us to have chickens in our yard. He didn't even want dogs, but how can you say no to Gigi? Anyway, that doesn't stop me from looking at different coop designs, like this one. It's a little bit country and a little bit modern. Also, I like that you could stand up inside it if you wanted.
It's pretty cool that this coop has a roof garden on top. I would love to do this if it was a salad garden on top. But it would have to be shorter or I'd have to have a ladder to pick my salad greens.
This chalet style seems pretty normal. I would have to paint it like the Wigwam Motel to make it a little more kitschy. Or I could go a completely modern like these below.
I'm pretty sure these more modern coops are the type of design Scott would like. But I'd love something a little more cute and fun. I mean, it's for chickens! Anyway, I've already started to name my imaginary chickens after the girls on RuPaul's Drag Race. One is definitely going to be named Shangela!
Hallelu!
