appliqué day

The last two days I've spent learning how to appliqué. This is my first attempt at hand appliqué.

Apparently circles are one of the hardest things to appliqué. I thought they would be easy, silly me. But I did get a master class in appliqué by my mom. And if anyone knows what to do, it's her. I think I'm going to add bigger circles to the next block. I'm very excited!

I have a fish’s tail, so I’m not qualified to love you

I've been telling my boyfriend that if I go to the Italian coast I might not leave. The sun bleached buildings climbing out of the rocky coastline, brightly painted boats bobbing back and forth, and the ocean breeze blowing through my hair. This little town, Vernazza, looks like heaven. This picture, that I found here, reminded me of a poem by Amy Gerstler.

birthday wishes

My birthday is in a couple of weeks, so this is my wish list. Oh, I'd also like a little Basset Hound puppy!

You might recognize these pretty tea cups. They are the Yedi Inside Out Heart Tea Cups that I blogged about here. I still really want them! They are so adorable. And since one of my favorite coffee mugs has gone missing, I think I need a completely new set.

I love Jam Fancy! She's an Australian artist that sells her prints on Etsy. If only she was holding a Frenchie, it could be a portrait of me!

These letterpress prints are from Dutch Door Press. They did a series of state bird prints. Above are New Jersey and Texas, where Scott and I are from respectively.

I found this fixed gear bike on Ebay, isn't she pretty? So, does anyone realize how hard it is to find a fixie for a girl that is under 5'5"? It's very difficult. I think I'm going to be saving up for this pretty bike.

If I do get a fixed gear bike, I'm wearing a helmet. A week ago, a good friend of mine crashed her bicycle. I've gone over my handle bars before too, but I'm more afraid of going ass over teacup (as Scott likes to say) on a fixie!

Last, for now, is Tree of Codes by Jonathan Safran Foer. This book has words carved out of it to create a new story. It looks awesome. I mean, I've seen this technique done before, but I would really like to own this book.

Holi Sunday!

Have you heard of Holi? The Festival of Color? It's the best holiday ever! I love any reason to run around and act like a kid, but this is the best because you throw color powder and water balloons at each other.

I've never seen a picture of Scott looking as happy as he does right here!

I still have pink in my scalp and on my arms.

I kind of wish he had a blue ear all the time.

I had so much fun. It was only Scott and me and a couple of friends, but it was great. Next year I want to go to the big celebration in Houston!

Here's an extra picture from the weekend. Do you see Gigi's bone? I love my silly dog, but she really doesn't know how to hide a bone! I don't think it counts when it's on top of a pile of fabric, do you?
